Namda a handmade rug is a kind of mattress originated during 11th century during the great Mughal ruler Akbar’s regime when the king ordered to arrange for a suitable coverage for his horse who was affected by biting cold. Namdas are made by felting sheep wool rather than
weaving it. The colourful floor covering is made all by hand. It is not woven like any other carpet in the valley but the fiber is compressed and then made to stick together.
