ABOUT ME

I am Zainab Qazi. I am Bsc Economics graduate from Royal Holloway, university of London. This project was a part of my curriculum.. The aim of the Project is to create a digital archive of things of historical importance . Since I belong to Kashmir, I decided to develop a Digital Museum on Kashmir titled “Exploring Kashmir-A Historical Perspective of Cultural Heritage.

Brief Background of the project

Kashmir popularly known as vale of Kashmir is a land of impeccable beauty and known across globe for its rich history , cultural heritage and arts & crafts. Amir Khusrau, a 13th -14th century poet of India has dedicated following couplet in persian to beauty of Kashmir

Agar firdaus bar roo-e zameen ast,
Hameen ast-o hameen ast-o hameen ast.
which means,
If there is a paradise on earth,
It is this, it is this, it is this

The project is aimed  to explore the rich cultural heritage of Kashmir and depict same in electronic form at as a digital museum. I have created a website as part of the project using word press and displayed at one place  historical anecdotes in the shape of historical texts, historical objects of interest for the history lovers. The collection includes some archaeological sites,  old temples, Muslim shrines, old coins, handicrafts, carpets, hand-made rugs , paper machie,  basket weaving , copper wear , silver wear and many other such items which have many interesting stories to tell and depict.
